Description
A beautiful collectible set of four U.S. postage stamps issued in 1956 as part of the Liberty Series of stamps to honor the brave defenders of the Alamo which had fallen to Santa Anna's army 100 years before. A month after the fall of the Alamo, Texans led by Sam Houston defeated the Mexican Army and captured Santa Anna. Santa Anna agreed to relinquish all Mexican interest in Texas and it became a republic. It is the only republic which later became a state. The stamps depict the Alamo and surrounding trees.
These stamps have never been used and are as fresh as the day they were sold at the Post Office over 61 years ago! Suitable for framing, they would make a5 great gift to anyone who is interested in Texas history or has visited this historic site!
