More Information:
Goedelli: Unlike many other fish specimens, this genera is only known from its fossil state. They first appeared in the Triassic time period then died out in the Upper Eocene period. The specimen's population peaked in the Jurassic period. Although the species habitat was mainly the sea, some lived, (if not in freshwater) at least in brackish water. "Pycnodontiformes" are an extinct order of bony fish. This species in particular were "holosteans" (bony fish that retain "basal" characteristics inherited from an early time in their evolution) lacking "ganoid" (A type of fish scale with a rhomboid shape, found in some fossil as well as extant bony fish scales). The majority of this species were approximately just as tall as they are long, and were a "flat fish". Their dorsal and anal fins were long and symmetric. The arrangement of their teeth, displayed incisive-shaped at the front and grazers at the back and is characteristic of the species. Their body can be covered by more or less spiny bony plates.
