This is a roll of 10 OM MANI PADME HUM prayer flags inscribed in Tibetan letter. The basic translation of OM MANI PADME HUM in English is "Praise to the Jewel in the Lotus." Each syllable corresponds to one of the six realms/areas of existence and purifies the vice associated with that realm:
• OM purifies bliss and pride (the realm of the Gods)
• MANI purifies jealousy, need for entertainment, passion, and desire (the realm of the jealous Gods and human realm)
• PADME purifies ignorance, prejudice poverty, and possessiveness (the realm of animals and hungry Ghosts)
• HUM purifies aggression and hatred (the realm of hell)
